Aztecs men's golf win Region I, Division I title, four named All-Region

The Pima Community College men's golf team captured the Region I, Division I championship on Saturday at the Gold Canyon Golf Club.

The Aztecs closed out the tournament shooting a team score of 285 and finished with an 1180 (296-295-304-285). The Aztecs were tied with Eastern Arizona College coming into the final round. Eastern Arizona took second place while Scottsdale Community College took third and Estrella Mountain Community College placed fourth.

In individual competition, the top eight players were selected to the All-Region team; the Aztecs took four of those spots. David Rauer (Cienega HS) finished in second place and shot a three-under par 67 on the day, which tied his second-lowest round of the season. He finished with a 287 (73-68-79-67) and was four-strokes off of first place. Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) took fourth place with an overall score of 296 (72-77-73-74).

Will Dennis birdied his final three holes and finished with an even-par 70 which put him in fifth place. He had a four-day total of 299 (78-78-73-70). Anthony Moncada (Tucson Magnet HS) closed out his round with a 74 and placed sixth in the individual standings with a score of 300 (73-72-81-74).

Aaron Ramonett (Tucson Magnet HS) improved in the final two rounds as he finished with a 334 (85-96-79-74).

"I'm very happy with the way they played over the last four days," Pima men's golf coach Clark Rustand said. "They should be very proud of themselves and they saved the best round for last. To have four of the eight make All-Region is pretty fun."

The Aztecs will be part of the NJCAA National Tournament at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS on May 10-15.
