Rauer and Aztecs Men's Golf Take First at Chandler-Gilbert Invitational

The Pima Community College men's golf team set the bar high in its first tournament of the 2016 season.

The Aztecs took first place in the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational on Tuesday at the Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa. Sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS), an NJCAA All-American last season, took first place in the individual tournament.

The Aztecs finished with a team score of 563 (278-285) as they shot five-under par for the tournament which included six-under in the first day. South Mountain Community College took second place (577) and finished 14-strokes behind the Aztecs. Mesa Community College finished third with a score of 587.

The top four scorers for the Aztecs finished in the top 10. Rauer shot a 137 for the tournament. He shot a six-under par 65 in his first round on Monday and a one-over 72 to close it out.

Sophomore Wilfred Tewawaina (Camp Verde HS) finished in second place with a two-day total of 140. He had a six-stroke improvement from his day one total (73-67). Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) was tied for third place with a total of 142 (70-72) and fellow sophomore Will Dennis finished tied for seventh place at 144 (70-74).

The Aztecs will compete in the Estrella Mountain Invitational at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, AZ on Feb. 15-16. The teams will tee-off at noon on both days.
