Aztecs Men's Golf Tie for Sixth at Estrella Mountain Invitational
The Pima Community College men's golf team struggled at the Estrella Mountain Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, AZ.
The Aztecs finished tied for sixth place with a two-day score of 599 (302-297). South Mountain Community College finished in first place with a team score of 559 (285-274) while Eastern Arizona College took second with 587 (291-296). Mesa Community College took third (590), Chandler-Gilbert Community College placed fourth (596) and Scottsdale Community College was fifth (598). Pima tied with Glendale Community College (599).
Sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS), who won the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational last week, finished tied for seventh place with a two-day total of 145. He shot a two-over par 74 on Monday and a one-under par 71 in his second round on Tuesday.
Sophomore Will Dennis finished the individual tournament tied for 14th place with a score of 149. He shot a one-over par 73 on Tuesday and a four-over par 76 in his first round on Monday. Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) shot a 150 (75-75) and was tied for 17th in the individual tournament while fellow sophomore Wilfred Tewawina (Camp Verde HS) finished tied for 32nd with a 155 (77-78).
The Aztecs will host the Pima Invitational at the Silverbell Golf Course on Feb. 29-Mar. 1. The teams will begin to tee off at 10:30 a.m. on both days.
