Wu Wins Mesa CC Invitational; Aztecs Men's Golf Takes Second Place

The Pima Community College men's golf team fell short in taking first place at the Mesa CC Invitational but placed three individuals in the top five on Tuesday at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course.

The Aztecs finished 18-strokes under par and in second place for the second straight invitational, as they had a two-day total of 558 (284-274). They finished one-stroke behind first place South Mountain Community College, who had 557 (278-279). Eastern Arizona College placed third with 582 (296-286).

Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) was the top player in the individual tournament as he shot an 10-under par 134. He had a one-under par 71 after the first round and capped it off the with a nine-under par 63.

Sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS) finished in third place with a six-under par 138. He shot a two-under par 70 on Monday and a four-under par 68 in the final round. Sophomore Will Dennis took fourth place with a five-under par 139. He shot a three-under par 69 in the first round and a four-under par 68 on Tuesday.

Freshman Jonah Daniels (Chaparral HS) rounded out the top four scorers for the Aztecs as he shot a two-day total of 147 (74-73) and was tied for 18th in the standings.

Wu is the second Pima men's golfer to win an invitational this season. Rauer won the Chandler-Gilbert CC Invitational on Feb. 9.

The Aztecs will compete in the Paradise Valley CC Invitational on Mar. 28-29 at the Gainey Ranch Golf Course. The teams will tee off at 12:30 p.m. on both days.
