Aztecs Men's Golf Take Lead After First Round of NJCAA Region I, Division I Championship

The Pima Community College men's golf team began the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championship on a strong note as the Aztecs took the lead after the first round on Thursday at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort.

The Aztecs sit in first place after they shot a total of 295. Eastern Arizona College is in second place with 315 while Scottsdale Community College is in third with 316. Estrella Mountain Community College is in fourth with 334.

The Aztecs placed all five of their golfers in the top 10 in the indivudal standings. Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) is tied for first place after he shot a one-over par 71. Fellow sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS) is right behind him in third place after he finished with a two-over par 72.

Sophomore Will Dennis is in fifth place after he shot a 75 for the round. Freshman Jonah Daniels (Chaparral HS) closed out his day with a 77 which put him in sixth. Sophomore Wilfred Tewawina (Camp Verde HS) is in seventh place with a 78.

The Aztecs compete in the second round of the Region I, Division I Championship tomorrow at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort (Sidewinder course). Teams begin to tee off at noon.
