Rauer Takes the Lead After the Second Round at the Region I Championship

The Pima Community College men's golf team maintain its lead in the team standings after the second round of the NJCAA Region I Championship on Friday at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort.

The Aztecs are in first place and lead by 19-strokes with a two-day total of 589 (295-294). Eastern Arizona College is tied for second place with 608 (315-293) while Scottsdale Community College also has 608 (316-292).

Sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS), who started the day in third place, took the lead after he shot a one-over par 71 for the round. He has a two-day score of 143 (72-71) and holds a one-stroke lead.

Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) was tied for first place after the first round but dropped to fourth after he shot a 74 on the day. He is just two-strokes behind Rauer with 145 (71-74).

Sophomore Will Dennis finished his day with a 75 and sits in fifth place with 150 (75-75). Freshman Jonah Daniels (Chaparral HS) improved by three-strokes in the second round after he shot a 74 on the day. He is in sixth with a 151 (77-74). Sophomore Wilfred Tewawina (Camp Verde HS) is in 10th place with 155 (78-77).

The Aztecs continue play in the NJCAA Region I Championship on Saturday at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort (Sidewinder course). Teams begin to tee off at 1:10 p.m.
