Wu Named NJCAA All-American; Aztecs Men's Golf Take Sixth Place at NJCAA National Championship
Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men's golf team closed out the NJCAA Division I National Championship on Friday at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, FL.
The Aztecs moved back up one spot and took sixth in the final team standings with an even-par score of 1152 (294-285-286-287). They were eight-strokes off of fourth place and nine off of third place.
Sophomore Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) produced a strong final round with a three-under par 69. He shot under par for the final three rounds and finished in sixth place with an eight-under par 280 (73-70-68-69). Wu was named first team NJCAA Division I All-American.
Sophomore David Rauer (Cienega HS) struggled in his final round as he shot a four-over par 76. He finished tied for 29th in the individual standings with a two-over par 290 (73-67-74-76).
Sophomore Will Dennis and freshman Nick St. Clair each tied for 37th place. St. Clair closed out the tournament with his best round of play as he shot a three-under 69. He shot a 293 (75-75-74-69). Dennis finished the final day with a one-over par 73 and shot a 293 (77-73-70-73) for the tournament.
"I'm proud of these guys and what they did this year," Pima coach Clark Rustand said. "David (Rauer) and Frankie (Wu) solidified their place in Pima history as two of the best golfers to have ever come through here."
The Aztecs produced four all-Region golfers (Rauer, Wu, Dennis and Wilfred Tewawina), three all-District (Rauer, Wu and Dennis) and two NJCAA All-Americans (Rauer and Wu). Pima has also improved their finishes at the NJCAA National Championship for four straight years. They took 20th in 2013, 19th in 2014 and 14th in 2015.
