Aztecs men's golf finish sixth at Mesa Invitational

The Pima Community College men's golf team opened the 2017 season at the Mesa Invitational on Sunday and Monday.

The Aztecs took sixth place in the team standings out of nine teams. They finished with a two-day score of 595 (299-296) at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course. South Mountain Community College took first place with 555 (281-274) and Mesa Community College placed second at 563 (279-284). The Aztecs were 10-strokes behind Eastern Arizona College (585) for third place.

Sophomore Nick St. Clair (Higley HS) and freshman Cooper Cordova (Mountain View HS) each finished with a two-over par 146. St. Clair shot a one-under par 71 on Monday. Cordova also had a better second round with an even-par 72. They were tied for 13th in the final individual standings.

Sophomore Jonah Daniels (Chaparral HS) was tied for 23rd place with a five-over par 149 (72-77). Freshman Derek Lozier (Salpointe Catholic HS) shot a 10-over par 154 (78-76).

The Aztecs will play in the Scottsdale Invitational on Feb. 20-21 at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City. The teams will begin to tee-off at 11:00 a.m.
