Aztecs men's golf tie for third place at hosted Pima Invitational

The Pima Community College men's golf team competed in its fifth tournament of the season on Sunday and Monday as it hosted the Pima Invitational at the Silverbell Golf Course.

The Aztecs finished tied for third place in the final team standings with a two-day total of 568 (283-285) which put them eight-over par. Chandler-Gilbert Community College was also tied for third place. The Aztecs finished two-strokes behind Mesa Community College (566) for second place and eight-strokes back from South Mountain Community College (560) for first.

Freshman Colton Gage (Cienega HS) was the top individual golfer for the Aztecs as he tied for sixth place in the standings. He shot a one-under par 69 in Monday's round and finished with a one-over par 141 (72-69).

Freshman Johnny Fiore (Marana HS) struggled in his second round of play after beginning the day tied for first place. He shot a three-under par 67 on Sunday and a five-over par 75 in the final round. He finished tied for ninth with a two-over par 142.

Freshman Cooper Cordova (Mountain View HS) hit three straight birdies midway through the round but finished the final round with a two-over par 72. He shot a five-over par 145 and was tied for 19th place.  Freshman Derek Lozier (Salpointe Catholic HS) and sophomore Nick St. Clair (Higley HS) each shot seven-over par 147. Sophomore Jonah Daniels (Chaparral HS) recovered from Sunday's round and finished at even-par 70 on Monday. He shot a total of 148 (78-70).

The Aztecs play in the Paradise Valley Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 17-18 at the Gainey Ranch Golf Course in Scottsdale, AZ. It will be their final regular season tournament. Teams will begin to tee-off at 12:30 p.m.
