Aztecs Men's Soccer Strike First but Finish Tied Against Yavapai

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (6-0-2, 6-0-2 in ACCAC) and Yavapai College played another classic on Tuesday at Kino North Stadium.

The No. 3 ranked Aztecs scored in the first half and No. 4 ranked Yavapai tied it in the second half as the game finished in a 1-1 tie. Neither team gained a field advantage in the two 10 minute overtimes

Sophomore Angel Heredia put Pima on the board in the 30th minute with an assist from sophomore Ryan Bristow (Ironwood Ridge HS) (pictured). The Aztecs had the first five shots on goal to start the game and the Aztecs led 1-0 at halftime.

Yavapai came back to tie the game in the 54 minute with a goal by Juanjo Carmona-deVille. Yavapai outshot the Aztecs 2-1 in the second half.

The Aztecs had a chance to take the lead when Alejandro Gonzalez (Flowing Wells HS) had a shot hit the right side of the goal post with 2:12 left in the second half. Each team had one shot on goal between the two overtimes.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) had a couple of great diving saves and finish with eight for the game.

This was the first time the Aztecs had been the higher rank against a Yavapai College team.

The Aztecs will be back at Kino North Stadium on Saturday when they host Mesa Community College at 7:00 p.m.

Pima goals: Heredia (Bristow) 30th minute.
