Banegas' Second Straight Hat Trick Leads Men's Soccer Passed South Mountain

The Pima Community College men's soccer (2-0, 2-0 in ACCAC) put together its second straight dominating performance on Saturday in the team's home opener at the Kino North Grandstand.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs shutout South Mountain Community College (0-2, 0-2) 7-0. They have scored 16 goals in the first two regular season victories.

Sophomore Hector Banegas (Rincon HS) scored a hat trick for the second straight game. He scored off a header in the 11th minute from freshman Gavino Carranaza's (Salpointe Catholic HS) free kick. He made it 3-0 with his goal in the 35th minute that was assisted by freshman Andrew Bianchi (Salpointe Catholic HS). He completed the hat trick with a shot that went in at the 83rd minute to make it 7-0.

Carranaza scored a goal in the 19th minute off a free kick and assisted in Julian Gaona's (Tucson Magnet HS) goal in the 82nd minute. Gaona scored two goals in the second half.

The Aztecs led 3-0 at halftime. For the game, the Aztecs outshot the Cougars 19-4 and sophomore keeper Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) had two saves.

The Aztecs will be back at the Kino North Grandstand on Tuesday when they host No. 17 ranked Phoenix College at 4:30 p.m. This will be the first time the Aztecs and Bears have met since the Region I, Division I finals match last season.
