Samorano goes 4 for 8 as Aztecs Softball splits doubleheader at Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College softball team picked up a split at Arizona Western College (7-14, 2-10) on Tuesday in Yuma.

• Game 1: Arizona Western College Matadors 9, Pima CC Aztecs 8: Freshman Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) and Kelli Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) each homered in the game. Tapia finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Samorano went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Freshman Analisa Gomez (University HS) was 2 for 3 with a run.
  Freshman Lia Dominguez (Cienega HS) took the loss (1-3) as she pitched a complete-game giving up nine runs with five strikeouts.
• Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 5, Arizona Western College Matadors 4: Freshman Alize Rodriguez (Bourgade Catholic HS) hit the game-winning RBI and finished 1 for 2 for the game.
  Samorano had another multi-hit game as she finished 2 for 4 with an RBI. Gomez (2 for 4) and freshman Elize Muñoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) (1 for 2) each scored a run and freshman Mia Casadei (Tanque Verde HS) was 1 for 3.
  Sophomore Faith Orton (Amphitheater HS) picked up the win (4-3) as she threw a complete-game giving up four runs with 11 strikeouts.

The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Tuesday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community college in an ACCAC doubleheader. First game starts at 1:00 p.m.
