Aztecs Softball gets swept on the road at No. 1 Phoenix College

The Pima Community College softball team (8-9, 5-3 in ACCAC) dropped two games on the road on Saturday at Phoenix College (12-4, 6-4).
The Aztecs managed one run and five hits on the day.

  • Game 1: (1) Phoenix College Bears 11, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (5 innings): Sophomore Analisa Gomez (University HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning with a solo home run but the Bears came back with five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and six runs in the 4th to claim the run-rule win.
    Gomez finished the game 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Alejandra Castro provided the other hit of the game for Pima as she was 1 for 1.
    Freshman Genesis Zazueta (Tucson Magnet HS) took the loss (3-4) as she pitched three and two-third innings giving up 10 runs (six earned) on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks.

  • Game 2: (1) Phoenix College Bears 15, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs generated three hits for the game as the Bears scored four runs in the 1st inning and 11 runs in the 4th.
    Sophomore Elise Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS), Castro and freshman Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) each finished the game 1 for 2.
    Freshman Wendy Castro (Canyon del Oro HS) took the loss (3-1) as she pitched three and two-third innings, giving up 14 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday when they host Arizona Western College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First game starts at 1:00 p.m.
