Camila Zepeda and Mina Chacon combine for four home runs and 19 RBIs as Softball sweeps Yavapai College

The Pima Community College softball team (25-16, 21-11 in ACCAC) got back in the win column on Thursday as it earned two run-rule victories at Yavapai College (4-32, 4-32).
The offense was led by freshmen Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) and Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS). Zepeda finished the day 4 for 8 with 11 RBIs and five runs scored while Chacon closed it out going 5 for 8 with eight RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore Wendy Castro (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up two wins on the mound. The Aztecs scored 35 runs on the day.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 10, Yavapai College Roughriders 1 (6 innings): The Aztecs took an early lead and held off any timely hitting for Yavapai. Zepeda drove in seven of Pima's 10 runs in the game.
Zepeda put the Aztecs up 4-0 with a two-run homer, driving in sophomore Elise Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS), who led off with a double. Zepeda added to the lead with a two-run RBI single in the 4th bringing around sophomores Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) and Mia Casadei (Tanque Verde HS) to make it 7-0. She had another two-run RBI hit in the 6th inning when she scored Munoz and sophomore Analisa Gomez (University HS) on a double to put it at 9-1. Zepeda scored on Chacon's RBI single to cap off the scoring.
Zepeda hit a ground-out that brought in Munoz in the 1st inning as she finished 3 for 4 with seven RBIs and two runs scored. Munoz went 2 for 2 with three runs scored while Gomez was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the 1st inning and two runs scored. Chacon finished 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Wendy Castro picked up the win (9-5) after she pitched all six innings, giving up one run (one earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks on 95 pitches.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 25, Yavapai College Roughriders 15 (6 innings): The Aztecs scored in every inning and capped it off with a nine-run 6th inning to complete the sweep. The Aztecs also finished with 14 walks.
Chacon had a big game as she got things going with a two-run RBI double in the 1st inning as part of a three-run inning. Up 4-2 in the 3rd inning, the Aztecs scored five runs as freshman Madison Fillman-Moreno (Sabino HS) drew a bases loaded walk and two batters later, Munoz hit a two-run RBI single. Gomez ground-out but scored Casadei to make it 9-2.
The Roughriders rallied with six runs in the bottom half of the 3rd to cut it to 9-8. The Aztecs quickly responded in the 4th as sophomore Alejandra Castro hit a leadoff single. Chacon sent one over the fence for the two-run jack. Freshman Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) followed with solo homer to make it 12-8.
Chacon hit her second 2-run homer in the 5th inning scoring Alejandra Castro again to make it 15-10.
In the 6th inning, Fillman-Moreno hit a three-run shot while Zepeda capped off Pima's scoring with a grand-slam to make it 25-10.
Chacon finished the game 3 for 4 with seven RBIs and three runs scored while Zepeda was 1 for 4 with four RBIs, three runs and two walks. Fillman-Moreno closed it out going 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs. Munoz went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs and Zylinski-Wrobel finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs. Alejandra Castro was 3 for 4 with four runs and Tapia drew four walks and scored three runs.
Wendy Castro picked up her 10th win of the season (10-5) as she pitched the final four innings in relief, giving up 10 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Saturday for an ACCAC doubleheader at Arizona Western College. First game begins at 12:00 p.m.
