Mia Casadei knocks in seven runs as Aztecs Softball sweeps Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College softball team (27-16, 23-11 in ACCAC) picked up its second straight road sweep over an ACCAC Division I opponent after it claimed two victories at Arizona Western College (22-26, 21-15) on Saturday in Yuma.
Sophomore Mia Casadei (Tanque Verde HS) provided a huge spark on offense as she finished the day 5 for 8 with seven RBIs and a run scored. Sophomores Wendy Castro (Canyon del Oro HS) and Alissandra Montiel (Cholla HS) got the wins on the mound.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 16, Arizona Western College Matadors 4 (5 innings): The Aztecs used a nine-run 4th inning to cease control and earn the first game victory.
Freshman Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) put the Aztecs up 3-0 with a three-run homer after it scored sophomore Elise Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) and freshman Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS).
Up 4-0 in the 3rd inning, the Aztecs got back-to-back RBI doubles from freshman Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) sophomore Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) to make it 6-0. Casadei also hit an RBI single in the inning to put Pima up 7-0.
Zylinski-Wrobel, Casadei and Zepeda each had two-run RBI hits in the 4th inning.
Casadei finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run while Chacon went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Zylinski-Wrobel was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Munoz went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tapia finished 1 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and freshman Madison Fillman-Moreno (Sabino HS) scored two runs, had two walks and an RBI.
Wendy Castro got her third straight win on the mound (11-5) after she pitched all five innings, giving up four runs (four earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 6, Arizona Western College Matadors 5 (8 innings): The Aztecs rallied and picked up the win in extra innings to complete the sweep.
Chacon scored on a wild pitch to break the tie in the 8th inning. Tapia drew a walk and pinch runner Jazlyn Felix (Willcox HS) replaced her on the base paths. With two outs, Casadei hit an RBI single to plate Felix to make it 6-4.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Matadors had two runners on with no outs. Montiel got a strikeout, but the next batter hit an RBI double. The Matadors tried to tie the game but freshman Jasmine Majonica (Flowing Wells HS) threw a bullet to Zylinski-Wrobel, who made the tag and got the second runner out at home plate preserving a one-run lead. Montiel got the next batter to fly out to end the game.
The Aztecs trailed 4-1 after three innings of play but began their rally in the top of the 4th. Tapia drew a leadoff walk and Fillman-Moreno hit a double. Tapia scored on an error and Fillman-Moreno scored on Casadei's groundout. Arizona Western's lead dwindled to 4-3.
Casadei hit a game-tying RBI single in the 6th inning, driving in Majonica to help set up extra innings.
Casadei also had an RBI double in the 2nd inning as she finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Tapia drew four walks and scored two runs in the game. Fillman-Moreno was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Montiel got the win (2-3) after she pitched a complete-game, giving up four runs (three earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
