Logo and Gonzales set national qualifiers at Mesa Invitational; Pilgrim takes 5th at Sun Angel

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Mesa CC Outdoor Invitational on Friday.

Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) and Peter Gonzales (Pueblo HS) each set outdoor national qualifying times in the 5,000-meter race. Logo finished 15th with a time of 15 minutes, 29.96 seconds. He already had a qualifying mark in the 10,000-meter race. Gonzales finished 19th with a time of 15:31.82. The Aztecs now have 12 outdoor national qualifiers.

 In other competition, Jared Roth took first place in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet, 6-inches. He fell short in his attempts at the national qualifying mark at 6-8. Cristian Gutierrez (Kingman HS) took second place in the discus with a throw of 139-6 and finished third in the shot put with a mark of 44-6¼.

In women's competition, Meghan Sweeney (Red Mountain HS) took third place in the triple jump with a mark of 37-¼.

Kaysee Pilgrim (Goldwater HS) competed in the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State University. She finished fifth in the high jump at 5-9.

The Aztecs will compete in the Triton Invitational at the University of California-San Diego on Apr. 24-25 in San Diego, CA. Competition begins on the 24th at 4:00 p.m. and continues on the 25th at 10:00 a.m.
