Aztecs track & field set three national qualifiers at Triton Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams set three new outdoor national qualifying marks at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, CA.

Andrew Lee (Benson HS) set his outdoor national qualifying mark in the pole vault as he finished in eighth place with a vault of 14-feet, 8 inches.

Mark Bennett (Marana HS) set a national qualifying time in the 5,000-meter race after he finished in 15th place with a time of 15 minutes, 20.49 seconds. Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) and Peter Gonzales (Pueblo HS) improved on their qualifying times also in the 5,000 meter race. Logo shaved almost 10 seconds off his qualifying time after he finished in 13th place with a time of 15:19.19. His previous mark was 15:29.96. Gonzales took 19th in the race and improved by almost two seconds at 15:29.16. Gonzales originally set his mark at 15:31.82.

In women's competition, Meghan Sweeney (Red Mountain HS) set a national qualifying mark in the high jump as she finished with a jump of 5-4.

The Aztecs now have 15 outdoor national qualifying marks.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Championships on Tuesday and Thursday, May 5 and May 7. Competition begins at 5:00 p.m. on both days.
