Aztecs track relay team takes sixth at NJCAA National Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams completed the second day of the NJCAA National Championships at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, KS.

The women's relay team of Sarrah Boughan (Canyon del Oro HS), Shalise Fernander (Flowing Wells HS), Desire Montenegro (Sunnyside HS) and Raelene Yocupicio (Rio Rico HS) took sixth place in the 4x800 meter relay race. They finished with a time of 9 minutes, 38.66 seconds and earned three points for the Aztecs. Their time is the fourth best in Pima school history.

Juliette Cossey (Sandra Day O'Connor HS) took 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 36-feet, 4-inches. She was the Region I champion with a mark of 38-2¼.

In men's competition, Anfernee Alexander (Santa Cruz Valley Union HS) took 10th place in the hammer throw with a mark of 158-10. He was the Region I champion with a throw of 173-2.

David Stiles (Yuma HS) finished 13th in the javelin throw with a mark of 136-4.

The NJCAA National Championships will continue tomorrow at Hutchinson Community College.
