Logo Breaks School Record in Mile Race at Puma Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Puma Indoor Invitational Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday in Phoenix.

In men's competition, sophomore Amanuel Logo (Catalina Magnet HS) broke the Pima school record in the one-mile race. He took second place with a time of 4 minutes, 17.81 seconds. He improved on his national qualifying time in the process which was 4:23.59.

Sophomore Hugo Nieves (Sunnyside HS) set an indoor national qualifying time in the 1,000 meter race as he took third place with a time of 2:34.94.

In women's competition, a pair of distance runners improved on their national qualifying times. Freshman Katherine Loyd (Catalina Magnet HS) finished first in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 10:48.61 which put her at No. 7 in the country. She beat out her original qualifier of 11:08.99.

Sophomore Elizabeth Deaton (Cienega HS) also improved on her time in the 3,000 meter race as she placed fifth with a time of 11:12.39. She shaved 11 seconds off her original qualifier of 11:23.61.

The Aztecs have 29 national indoor qualifying marks and times for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships.

The Aztecs will compete in the Central Arizona Indoor Invitational next Saturday in Coolidge. Events will begin at noon.
