Logo Breaks Third Indoor School Record at Central Arizona Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in their final regular season indoor invitational on Saturday at Central Arizona College.

Sophomore Amanuel Logo (Catalina HS) set his third Pima school record of the indoor season as he took first place in the 1,000 meter race with a time of 2 minutes, 27.78 seconds. Logo claimed the 5,000 meter record (15:27.34) in the first meet of the season on Jan. 23 and the one-mile race record (4:17.81) on Feb. 20.

Sophomore Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) took first place in the one-mile race with an improved national qualifying time of 4:21.07. His previous time was 4:27.20. Sophomore Hugo Nieves (Sunnyside HS) finished second in the 1,000 meter race at 2:34.86. He improved on his national qualifying time which was 2:34.94.

Freshman Treyshon Malone (Yuma Catholic HS) finished first in the long jump with an improved national qualifying mark of 23-4. His previous qualifier was 22-10. Freshman Sam Shoultz (Corona de Sol HS) took first place in the high jump event with a mark of 6-feet, 9 inches. Shoultz had set a national qualifying mark at 6-10.75. Nicolas Sibley (Mountain Pointe HS) took first place in the triple jump with a 45-9. He set a previous indoor national qualifier at 46-6.75

In women's competition, three athletes improved on their indoor qualifying marks. Sophomore Kelsey Montano (Tucson Magnet HS) took first place in the one-mile race and shaved almost 10 seconds off her qualifier. She finished the race with a time of 5:22.93; an improvement from her previous time of 5:32.57. Freshman Katherine Loyd (Catalina HS) displayed an eight second improvement in the mile race as she took second at 5:26.85. Her previous time was 5:34.67.

Sophomore Juliette Cossey (Sandra Day O'Connor HS) closed out the triple jump event taking first place with a mark of 37-3.25. She improved on her previous mark which was 36-5.50.

The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC on Mar. 4-5.
