Shoultz ties school record, Holliday sets qualifiers in two events at Willie Williams Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams open the outdoor season on Saturday in the Willie Williams Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

The Aztecs set 10 national qualifiers for the invitational. Freshman Sam Shoultz (Corona del Sol HS) tied a Pima school record and set an outdoor national qualifier in the high jump with a jump of 7-feet, .50 inches.

Sophomore Mark Bennett (Marana HS) earned a national qualifying time in the 5,000 meter race as he took second place at 15 minutes, 22.40 seconds. Fellow sophomore and distance runner Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) set his qualifier in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 4:00.78. Freshman Treyshon Malone (Yuma Catholic HS) took seventh place in the 400 meter hurdles with a national qualifying time of 54.62 seconds.

In other action, freshman Isaiah Banks (Mountain Pointe HS) took first place in the long jump with a leap of 23-1.

In women's competition, Jamie Holliday (Sahuaro HS) set two national qualifying marks. She took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-4.75 and finished fifth place in the triple jump with a mark of 36-11.

Sophomore Meghan Sweeney (Red Mountain HS) placed third in the high jump with a national qualifying mark of 5-5. Fellow sophomore and jumper Juliette Cossey (Sandra Day O'Connor HS) took third in the triple jump with a qualifying jump of 38-1.

Freshman Katherine Loyd (Catalina HS) set a personal time and a national qualifying mark in the 5,000 meter race. She finished 10th with a time of 18:43.42.

The 4x100 relay team of sophomore McKenna McGrath (St. David HS), Holliday, and freshmen Amber McCroskey (Buena HS) and Hannah Bartz (Mountain View HS) took fifth place with a national qualifying time of 47.87 seconds.

The Aztecs will compete in the Puma Outdoor Distance & Multi-Meet at Paradise Valley Community College from Mar. 24-26 in Phoenix. Events begin on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and continue Friday and Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
