Bearup sets two Pima school records at Paradise Valley Indoor meet

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams kicked off their seasons at the Paradise Valley Indoor Invitational.

Freshman Rhiannon Bearup (Skyline HS) broke two school records as the Aztecs set six national qualifying marks.

In women's competition, Bearup broke the Pima school record and set her qualifier in the 60 meter hurdles preliminary race. She took third place with a time of 9.05 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Bearup, sophomore Melissa Cotsonas (Mountain View HS), sophomore Amber McCroskey (Buena HS) and freshman Tyra Yanez (Sahuaro HS) took third place and set a school record and qualifier at 4 minutes, 01.50 seconds.

Sophomore Hannah Bartz (Mountain View HS) set a national qualifier in the long jump as she took second place with a mark of 18-feet, 8.50-inches (5.70 meters). Bartz also finished first in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.88.

In men's competition, sophomore Sam Shoultz (Corona del Sol HS) took first place and set a national qualifier in the high jump with a mark of 6-8.75 (2.05 meters).

Freshman Cam Duffy (Peoria HS) took third place in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 23-1.25 (7.04 meters). He also took first in the triple jump at 44-7.50 (13.60 meters).

Freshman Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) earn a national qualifier in the pole vault after he took fourth place with a vault of 14-9.

Sophomore David Fernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) fell short of earning a national qualifier but took first place in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 9:14.53.

The Aztecs will host the Aztec Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the West Campus track. Events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on both days.
