Malone and Shoultz earn top jump finishes at Willie Williams Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field team opened the outdoor season on Friday and Saturday in the Willie Williams Invitational at Roy P. Drachman Stadium hosted by the University of Arizona.

Sophomore Sam Shoultz (Corona del Sol HS) took first place in the high jump with a mark of 7-feet, 0.50-inches. His record-setting attempts at 7-2.50 came up short.

Sophomore Treyshon Malone (Yuma Catholic HS) took first place and earned an outdoor national qualifier in the long jump with a mark of 24-0.50.

Freshman Cam Duffy (Peoria HS) took second place in the long jump at 23-4.50 and third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-4.

In women's competition, the 4x100 relay team of freshman Tyra Yanez (Sahuaro HS), sophomore Hannah Bartz (Mountain View HS), freshman Rhiannon Bearup (Skyline HS) and sophomore Amber McCroskey (Buena HS) took fifth place and earned a national qualifier at 47.88 seconds.

Freshman Megan Shiffmacher took second place in the high jump and earned a national qualifier at 5-5.

The Aztecs will compete in the Puma Outdoor Distance meet in Phoenix and the Mesa Combined Events in Mesa on Thursday. Both events begin at 3:00 p.m.
