Aztecs track set three qualifiers at Puma Outdoor Meet

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams were in Phoenix on Thursday and Saturday for the Puma Outdoor Invitational.

In women's competition, freshman Alyssa Watkins (Camp Verde HS) set an outdoor national qualifying mark in the hammer throw. She took third place with a mark of 155-feet, 1-inch which put her at No. 7 in the top 10 list.

Freshman Rhiannon Bearup (Skyline HS) took third place and earned a qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 06.64 seconds.

Freshman Megan Shiffmacher improved on her national qualifier in the high jump. She took third place with a jump of 1.68 meters (5-6). She improved from her previous jump of 5-5.

In men's competition, sophomore David Fernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) set his national qualifier in the 10,000 meter race. He took seventh place and finished with a time of 32:56.12.

The Aztecs have set seven national qualifying marks in two meets during the outdoor season so far.

The Aztecs will compete in the ACCAC Conference Meet on Saturday, April 1 in Glendale, AZ. Events will begin at 11:00 a.m.
