Malone snags Pima school record in long jump at Aztec Outdoor Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams hosted the Aztec Outdoor Invitational on Saturday at the West Campus as the jumpers displayed another dominating performance.

Sophomore Treyshon Malone (Yuma Catholic HS) captured the Pima school record in the high jump with a leap of 25-feet, 5.50-inches (7.75 meters). He broke Greg Foster's record of 25-4.50 set in 1984. Malone's previous mark was 24-0.50.

Freshmen Cam Duffy (Peoria HS) and Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) set national qualifiers in the long jump. Duffy took second place and set a personal record in the process with a jump of 24-1.75. Jarus took third place and set his qualifier at 23-9.50.

In women's competition, freshman Alyssa Watkins (Camp Verde HS) improved her national qualifier in the hammer throw as she finished with a personal-best of 157-4 (47.97 meters). Her previous mark was 155-0.

Sophomore Hannah Bartz (Mountain View HS) improved on her national qualifier in the long jump and also set a personal record with a leap of 19-10.25. Her previous national qualifier was 18-4.75.

Note: Sophomore Sam Shoultz (Corona del Sol HS) tied his own record in the high jump at the Sun Angel Meet at Arizona State University. He had a jump of 7-1.75 and just fell short of 7-3.

The Aztecs will compete in the Triton Invitational at the University of California, San Diego. The meet will be on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22 in San Diego, CA. Events will begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
