Aztecs women's basketball thrash Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball (18-5, 12-3 in ACCAC) asserted its dominances early and ran away with the victory on Saturday against Eastern Arizona College (4-19, 4-11).

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs held the Gila Monsters (Division I) to just 16 points after the first half and went on to win 87-47.

After taking a 23-10 lead after the first quarter, the Aztecs held the Gila Monsters scoreless for seven minutes in the second quarter and just six points to take a 44-16 at the break. They outscored Eastern Arizona by double digits again after third quarter at 22-11. The Aztecs led by as much as 48 points.

Freshman Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) finished the game with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. She went 7 for 9 from the floor and 3 for 5 in three-pointers. Freshman Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) also scored 17 points to go along with six assists.

Sophomore Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) finished with 16 points while fellow sophomore Aubre Fortner contributed with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Aztecs swept the regular season meetings with the Gila Monsters. They won 86-44 in Thatcher back in December.

Pima women's basketball coach Todd Holthaus is inching closer to his 400th head coaching career victory. He sits at 398 after the win. He's won 238 games as the Aztecs head coach and won 160 games at Flowing Wells High School.

The Aztecs hit the road on Wednesday as they play at South Mountain Community College. Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
