Aberle and Simmons score in double figures as Aztecs women's basketball beats SAGU
The Pima Community College women's basketball team (1-1) bounced back on Saturday as it earned a win to close out play at the Eastern Arizona Classic.
- The No. 13 ranked Aztecs defeated SAGU American Indian College 82-42. The Aztecs outscored the Warriors 22-9 in the opening quarter and 49-25 in the second half.
- Freshman Matehya Aberle (Holbrook HS) finished with a team-high 17 points and a double-double adding 10 rebounds.
- Sophomore Melissa Simmons was 3 for 4 from 3-point range and also finished in double figures with 11 points. She was 4 for 7 from the field.
- Sophomores Nikya Orange (Tanque Verde HS) and Angel Addleman (Palo Verde HS) each contributed with eight points.
- As a team, the Aztecs had 22 assists, 13 steals and seven blocks for the game. They also went 10 for 14 from the free throw line.
- The Aztecs are back on the road on Tuesday when they play at Arizona Christian University JV. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
