Aztecs Women's Basketball falters in second half to Central Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (5-2, 1-1 in ACCAC) hosted Central Arizona College (5-0, 2-0) on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 9 ranked Aztecs (Division II) fell to the Vaqueras (Division I) 83-62. The Aztecs took a 43-36 lead at halftime but Central Arizona outscored the Aztecs 29-10 in the third quarter. The Aztecs scored just 19 points in the second half.
  • Freshman Luisayde Chavez (Rio Rico HS) finished with a team-high 13 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Freshman Matehya Aberle (Holbrook HS) went 5 for 8 from the field and finished with 12 points to go along with six rebounds. Fellow freshman Torrance Begay (Page HS) contributed with 11 points.
  • The Aztecs will play their next three games on the road. They head to Phoenix College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff time.
