Dominique Acosta's double-double helps Aztecs Women's Basketball beat Central Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (15-4, 8-3 in ACCAC) picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday as it earned a road victory at Central Arizona College (9-11, 4-7).

  • The No. 12 ranked Aztecs downed the Vaqueras 70-60 as Pima snapped a 5-game losing streak to Central Arizona College. Their last win against them was a 114-112 triple-overtime win on Feb. 2, 2019.
  • The Aztecs led 34-31 at halftime and outscored the Vaqueras in the third (18-16) and fourth (18-13) quarters.
  • "This team doesn't always play the prettiest game or make all their shots, but they care about each other and play as a team," Pima women's basketball coach Todd Holthaus said. "A joy to coach."
  • Sophomore Luisa Chavez scored a team-high 19 points for the second straight game. She also added nine rebounds and five steals.
  • Sophomore Torrance Begay (Page HS) added 13 points along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
  • Freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) finished with a double-double of 10 points and 15 boards. She had 16 rebounds on Wednesday against Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Sophomore Priscila Varela (Mesquite HS) also added 10 points.
  • Sophomore Aiona Johnson contributed with eight points and six rebounds.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they host Phoenix College to start off the second half of the season. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
