Aztecs women's golf place 3rd at Scottsdale Invitational
The Pima Community College women's golf team took third place at the Scottsdale Invitational on Monday at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City, AZ. This was the third time out of the four tournaments this season the Aztecs have finished third.
The Aztecs started the day 12-strokes behind Chandler-Gilbert Community College for the third spot but they closed out the second day with a 26-stroke improvement and finished the tournament with a team score of 736 (381-355). Chandler-Gilbert took fourth with a score of 739 (368-371). Mesa Community College took first place with a 616 (317-299) and South Mountain Community College placed second with a 672 (330-342).
Each Pima player improved from their first-day totals. Paige Valles (Catalina Foothills HS) took ninth place with a two-day total of 170 (88-82). Carley Nelson (Marana HS) shot a 175 (89-86) and finished in 11th place. Jessica Nordby (Walden Grove HS) placed 16th with a total of 193 (100-93). Casey Morinelli (Mountain View HS) finished the tournament with a 198 (104-94) putting her in 17th place.
The Aztecs will play in the Estrella Mountain Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Aguila Golf Course in Phoenix. Teams will begin to tee-off at 12:15 p.m. on both days.
