Aztecs Women's Golf Takes Second Place at Scottsdale CC Invitational

The Pima Community College women's golf team jumped up a spot in the final team standings on Tuesday at the Scottsdale CC Invitational.

The Aztecs, in third place after the first round, finished in second place with a total of 671 (336-335) at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City, AZ. Mesa Community College took first place with a two-day total of 646 (326-320) and South Mountain Community College took third place as they finished three-strokes behind at 674 (333-341). This is the Aztecs second-straight runner-up finish.

Freshman Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs as she took third place in the individual standings. She shot a total of 160; an 82 in the first round and had a four-stroke improvement in the second round with a six-over par 78.

Sophomore Casey Morinelli (Mountain View HS) finished 10th in the standings as she shot a two-day total of 169 (84-85). Fellow sophomore Carley Nelson (Marana HS) placed 12th with a 173 (87-86).

Freshmen Raquel Converse and Adriana Moreno (Cholla HS) each finished the tournament tied for 14th place. Converse shot a 176 (90-86) and Moreno also finished with a 176 (89-87).

The Aztecs will play in the Estrella Mountain Invitational at the Aguila Golf Course in Phoenix on Sunday and Monday. The teams will tee off at noon on both days.
