Hong Wins Estrella Mountain CC Invitational; Aztecs Women's Golf Take Second Place
The Pima Community College women's golf team couldn't hold on to the top spot after the final round of the Estrella Mountain CC Invitational on Monday at the Aguila Golf Course. Freshman Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) won her second invitational of the season.
The Aztecs finished with a two-day total of 659 (325-334) and were 10-strokes behind Mesa Community College, who took first place with 649 (330-319). The Aztecs led by five-strokes after the first round. South Mountain Community College placed third with 665 (330-335). This was the third time the Aztecs have taken second place this season.
Hong finished with a two-day total of 146. She shot an even-par 72 in the first round and a two-over par 74 on Monday.
Freshman Adriana Moreno (Cholla HS) took eighth place with a total of 168 (81-87) while sophomore Casey Morinelli (Mountain View HS) tied for ninth place with 169 (85-84). Freshman Raquel Converse shot a 178 (88-90) and took 15th place.
The Aztecs will play in the Chandler-Gilbert CC Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Toka Sticks Golf Course in Phoenix. The teams will tee off at noon on both days.
