Hong Wins Pima Invitational, Named Conference Player of the Year; Women's Golf Take Second

The Pima Community College women's golf team closed out the regular season on Tuesday at the Silverbell Golf Course.

The Aztecs took second place for the fifth time this season as they closed out the Pima Invitational with a 636 (328-308). Mesa Community College took first place with a 613 (308-305) and South Mountain Community College placed third at 684 (339-345).

Freshman Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) won her fourth tournament out of the six played this season. She shot a three-over par 73 in the first round and closed out the tournament with a two-under par 68. She had a two-day total of 141 (+1) and finished nine-strokes ahead of second place.

Hong was named ACCAC Conference Player of the Year and earned first team All-ACCAC Conference and first-team All-Region.

Freshman Samantha Hacker (Sahuaro HS) closed out the tournament in fifth place with a 157. She shot an 80 on Monday and finished the tournament with three-strokes improvement with a 77.

Hacker was named second team All-ACCAC Conference and second-team All-Region I.

Freshman Adriana Moreno (Cholla HS) shot a two-day score of 166 (86-80). She was also named second team All-ACCAC Conference.

Sophomore Casey Morinelli (Mountain View HS) finished the tournament with a 175 (89-86).

The Aztecs took second place in the overall ACCAC Conference standings.

The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA National Championship on May 16-19 at Daytona Beach Golf Course in Daytona Beach, FL.
