Aztecs women's track & field improve marks at Pima Invitational

The Pima Community College women's track & field team inched closer to national qualifying marks at the Chapman Auto Pima Outdoor Invitational on Saturday at the West Campus Track.

  • Freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) took first place in the high jump as she improved from last week with a jump of 1.58 meters (5-feet, 2-inches). The national qualifying mark in the high jump is 1.63 meters. Her mark last week was set at 1.48 meters.
  • Freshman Akira Jones (St. David HS) inched a little closer to the national qualifying mark in the discus throw. She finished in second place with a throw of 39.77 meters (130-5) which was an improvement from 39.27 set last week. The national qualifying mark is 40.24 meters.
  • Freshman Lucy Chavez (Bisbee HS) took second place in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.67 meters (123-6). It was an improvement from her best throw last week which was set at 34.82 meters.
  • The Aztecs will compete at the Glendale Outdoor Invitational next Saturday at Glendale Community College.
