The Aztecs volleyball team closed out the 2023 season on Friday after falling to Glendale Community College in an elimination game at the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament. The Pima Community College volleyball team’s season came to a close on Friday in the second day of the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament.

Sophomore Sasha Ross (Canyon del Oro HS) finished with five kills, 10 digs and two blocks but the No. 3 seeded Aztecs volleyball team dropped their opening match of the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament to No. 2 Chandler-Gilbert Community College in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-23. The Pima Community College volleyball team (12-17) opened play at the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament on Thursday at Scottsdale Community College.

Sophomore Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) was named ACCAC Libero of the Year as she led the ACCAC with 547 digs and averaged 5.31 per set while fellow sophomore Abby Whatton (Canyon del Oro HS) earned All-ACCAC Honorable Mention recognition. she had 283 kills and 210 digs. Sophomore Abby Whatton (Canyon del Oro HS) finished with a team-high 24 kills as the Aztecs toppled Glendale Community College in the tiebreaker (17-25, 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 15-8). The Pima Community College volleyball team (12-16, 8-8 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Friday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium against Glendale Community College (10-9, 8-8).

Sophomore libero Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) earned NJCAA and ACCAC Division II Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21. She finished with 60 digs, nine assists and three aces as Pima won in five sets at Mesa Community College and fell to No. 1 ranked Scottsdale Community College in four sets. Pima Community College volleyball player Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) earned national recognition for her play during the week of October 15-21.

Abby Whatton finished with a team-high 17 kills and posted a double-double along with 15 digs while sophomore Christina Shaffer (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) had eight kills as Aztecs volleyball rallied from an 0-2 deficit to beat South Mountain Community College in five sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-12).
