Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) had a great day in Prescott on Saturday as the Aztecs split at Yavapai College. Estrella went 3 for 6 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Game 1: Yavapai College Roughriders 4, Pima CC Aztecs 2
The Aztecs took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning but Yavapai held it for good with two runs in the 5th and another run in the 6th as Pima lost 4-2. Justin Hammergren (Sahuaro HS) took the loss (1-2) after he pitched six innings giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Estrella finished 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored while Al Cruz (Nogales HS) was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 13, Yavapai College Roughriders 9
The Aztecs were able to hold off a late-inning rally by Yavapai to win 13-9. Up 11-4, the Aztecs gave up five runs in the 8th inning as their lead was cut to 11-9. They tacked on two runs in the top of the 9th to seal it.
Vinnie Tarantola (Sahuaro HS) picked up the win (3-1) as he pitched five innings giving up two runs (two earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Marcel Renteria (Nogales HS) picked up his second save of the year as he pitched the final one and one-third innings.
Estrella was 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Devin Harrison (Ironwood Ridge HS) was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
