Johnson and Stine lead Aztecs baseball in win

The Pima Community College baseball team (16-12) took control of its game against the White Rock Tritons (Canada) in the later innings on Monday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs broke open a tie with two runs in the 5th inning, five in the 6th and three in the 7th to win 15-5 in seven innings.

Up 7-5 in the 6th, Zach Gadway (Sabino HS) led off with a double which was followed by Jaquese Moore's (Marcos de Niza HS) RBI triple. The Aztecs went on to load the bases for Trevor Johnson, who hit a three-run RBI double to make it 11-5. He scored later in the inning. Trey Stine (Ironwood Ridge HS), who hit a two-run home run in the 1st inning, ended the game with a sacrifice-fly RBI to score Moore.

Johnson finished the game 1 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Stine went 1 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Moore was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI and Gadway finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Mike Hast picked up the win for the Aztecs (2-0) as he pitched five innings giving up five runs (five earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) pitched two hitless innings as he struck out five of the seven batters faced.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC Conference play tomorrow when they play a doubleheader at Scottsdale Community College. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
