Aztecs baseball hit three homers in sweep against Eastern AZ

The Pima Community College baseball team (21-14, 14-10 in ACCAC) earned a sweep against Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday at the West Campus.

Pitchers Roy Aguirre (Douglas HS) and Chris Kucko (Sahuarita HS) picked up the wins on the mound while Jacob Northrup (Sahuaro HS), Trevor Johnson and Devin Harrison (Ironwood Ridge HS) provided the sparks on offense. Northrup was 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Johnson went 3 for 7 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Harrison finished 4 for 8 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 10, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 1 (6 innings)

Harrison hit a two-run homer in the 2nd inning and Northrup hit a three-run RBI double in the 3rd as Pima won the first game 10-0 in six innings. Brandon Burke (Canyon del Oro HS) hit an RBI single to score Johnson in the 6th to end the game. Northrup was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Harrison went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Johnson and Trey Stine (Ironwood Ridge HS) each went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored, a RBI and two doubles.

Aguirre earned the win (5-1) as he dominated Eastern's offense. He pitched six innings giving up two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 9, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 1 (9 innings)

Johnson hit a three-run home run and Al Cruz (Nogales HS) hit a solo homer in the 1st inning as the Aztecs beat Eastern 9-1 in the second game. Johnson finished the game 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Cruz went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Harrison and Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) each went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Northrup finished the game 2 for 2.

Kucko got the win on the mound (4-4) as he pitched a complete-game giving up one run (none earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk on 111 pitches.

The Aztecs will play a conference doubleheader on Saturday at Cochise College. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
