Ramsower has 6 RBIs in first game as baseball splits at Glendale

The Pima Community College baseball team (24-25, 17-21 in ACCAC) split in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Glendale Community College as the Aztecs fight for the No. 4 seed in the Region I, Division II tournament. The Aztecs came into the day one game behind Scottsdale Community College for the No. 4 spot.

The Aztecs got a huge game from Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) in the first game. In the second game, Ruben Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS) and Vinnie Tarantola Sahuaro (HS) were standouts at the plate.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Glendale CC Gauchos 1 (7 innings)

Ramsower went on a tear in the first game as the Aztecs beat Glendale 7-1. He finished 4 for 4 with six RBIs. Ramsower gave the Aztecs the lead at 2-1 in the 4th inning with an RBI single. In the 6th inning, he provided a bit more of a cushion with a two-run RBI single to make it 4-1. In the 7th, he cleared the bases with a three-run RBI double. Pinch-runner Travis Chavez (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored on all of Ramsower's RBI hits as he finished with three runs. Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS) had an fielder's choice RBI in the 4th inning to tie the game at 1-1. Al Cruz (Nogales HS) went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and Tarantola (Sahuaro HS) was 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) threw a gem as he got the win (3-3). He pitched a complete-game giving up one run (one earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: Glendale CC Gauchos 9, Pima CC Aztecs 7 (9 innings)

The Aztecs cut into Glendale's lead but fell short as they lost the second game 9-7. Down 8-1 in the 8th inning, the Aztecs put the first two runners on base. Bracamontes came up and smashed a three-run home run. Trey Stine (Ironwood Ridge HS) hit a fielder's choice RBI to make it 8-6. In the 9th, Tarantola hit an RBI double to plate Daniel Peters (Sabino HS) but the next three batters were called out.

Bracamontes went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Tarantola hit a solo homer in the 3rd inning and finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Peters went 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Justin Hammergren (Sahuaro HS) took the loss (4-4) as he pitched five innings giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Roy Aguirre (Douglas HS) pitched the final three innings giving up three runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Saturday in a conference doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
