Aztecs Baseball Suffer First Loss at Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (10-1, 1-1 in ACCAC) suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday as they split a doubleheader at Scottsdale Community College (5-3, 1-1).

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 3, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 0 (7 innings)

Sophomore pitcher Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) pitched his second scoreless game in his first three starts. He pitched a complete-game giving up four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. He was named ACCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week.

Sophomore Francisco Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS), who was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week, went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as he hit an RBI single in the 1st inning and had a groundout RBI in the 7th. Sophomore Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning as he went 3 for 4 for the game.

Sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored two runs and drew a walk while freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) finished 3 for 4 with one run scored.

Game 2: Scottsdale CC Artichokes 11, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (8 innings)

The Aztecs couldn't find a rhythm on offense in the second game as they managed six hits. Freshman Max Whitehead put Pima on the board with a solo home run in the 6th inning to make it 6-1 at that point. Whitehead finished 1 for 3 while Ramsower was 2 for 4.

Freshman pitcher Ernesto Romero (2-1) took the loss as he started the game and went three and one-third innings giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Tuesday when they host GateWay Community College in a conference doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
