Larranaga Homers but Aztecs Baseball Drop Doubleheader Against Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (19-13, 9-11 in ACCAC) dropped an ACCAC doubleheader at the West Campus on Tuesday against Scottsdale Community College (21-12, 11-7).

Game 1: Scottsdale CC Artichokes 13, Pima CC Aztecs 8

The Aztecs surrender six runs in each the second and fourth innings. The rally fell short in the sixth inning.

Freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) hit an RBI single and three batters later, sophomore Francisco Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS) hit a two-run RBI single in the sixth.

In the fourth inning, freshman Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) hit a solo home run to cut Scottsdale's lead to 12-5.

Down 6-1 in the bottom of the third inning, sophomore Frankie Ortiz (Ironwood Ridge HS) cleared the bases with a three-run RBI double to make it 6-4. Freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) hit an RBI single in the first inning.

Ortiz finished the game 1 for 3 with three RBIs while Felix went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored and Larranaga finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) went 1 for 3 with three runs scored and two walks.

Sophomore pitcher Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) took the loss and dropped to 4-3 on the season. He pitched three and one-third innings giving up 11 runs (eight earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Scottsdale CC Artichokes 12, Pima CC Aztecs 2

The Aztecs gave up five runs in the second inning. Pima scored one run in each the second and third innings.

Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with an RBI single in the second inning. Ramirez was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice-fly RBI in the third.

Freshman pitcher Trevelle Hill (Tucson Magnet HS) took the loss and dropped to 5-4 on the season.

The Aztecs will play the White Rock Tirtons (Canada) in a non-conference single game tomorrow at the West Campus. The game starts at 2:00 p.m.
