Ramsower Hits Two Homers, Has Six RBIs as Baseball Earns Split at Eastern Arizona

The Pima Community College baseball team (23-15, 11-13 in ACCAC) played an ACCAC doubleheader at Eastern Arizona College (17-19, 6-12) on Tuesday as the Aztecs split for the ninth time this season.

After dropping a high-scoring game to the Gila Monsters in the first game, the Aztecs came back in the second game led by sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS), who finished the day 6 for 8 with six RBIs and five runs scored. Sophomore Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 4 for 6 with four runs scored.

Game 1: Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters 15, Pima CC Aztecs 10

The Aztecs scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning but the rally was cut short.

The Aztecs took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Gila Monsters scored seven runs in the third. Sophomore Jacob Northrup (Sahuaro HS) and freshman Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) each hit RBI doubles in the fourth inning and Ramsower scored a run in the fifth to cut Eastern Arizona's lead to 7-6. The Gila Monsters scored five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth inning.

Ramsower finished the game 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Northrup was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Rodriguez and Larranaga each went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Catalano was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) took the loss (4-4) as he pitched five innings giving up 12 runs (12 earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and nine walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 12, Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters 7

The Aztecs scored eight runs in the fourth inning as Ramswer and freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) each knocked two-run home runs in the inning. Freshman Myles Moran capped off the inning with an RBI single to put the Aztecs up 10-3.

Ramsower put the Aztecs on the scoreboard with his first two-run homer in the third inning to tie the game up at 2-2.

Ramsower finished the game 4 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Ramirez was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored while Catalano finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Freshman Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) picked up the win and improved to 4-1 on the season. He pitched six and one-third innings giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host Cochise College in an ACCAC doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
