Aztecs Baseball Drop Doubleheader at Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (28-22, 15-19 in ACCAC) dropped a tough ACCAC doubleheader on the road at Paradise Valley Community College (24-24, 14-20 in ACCAC) on Tuesday in Phoenix.

Game 1: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 7, Pima CC Aztecs 6 (10 innings)

The Aztecs rallied twice in the game but the Pumas scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to win it.

Down 4-0, the Aztecs rallied with four runs in the sixth inning. The Pumas retook the lead at 5-4 with a run in the bottom half of the inning but the Aztecs tied it again in the seventh. The Aztecs took a 6-5 lead after the top half of the 10th inning.

Sophomore Francisco Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the game 3 for 5 with an RBI while fellow sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) went 1 for 6 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 1 for 5 with two RBIs and a double. Freshman Anthony Felix went 3 for 5 with a run scored.

Freshman Kristian Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) took the loss (1-2) as he pitched three and two-third innings in relief giving up two runs (two earned) on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Daniel Tolano started the game and went six innings giving up five runs (five earned) on nine hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 6, Pima CC Aztecs 3 (7 innings)

The Aztecs took a pair of leads in this game but couldn't hold on in the end. Pima led 1-0 after the top of the first and again at 3-2 after the top of the third inning but the Pumas tied it after the third inning and took the lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth inning.

Estrella finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored and a double. Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Felix was 1 for 4 with a run scored and a double while Ramsower went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double. Freshman Myles Moran finished 2 for 3 with a triple.

Freshman Jake Roberson took the loss (2-1) in a relief appearance as he threw two and two-third innings giving up three runs (none earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) started the game and pitched three innings giving up three runs (two earned) on one hit with three walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Saturday when they host Phoenix College in an ACCAC doubleheader. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
