Porchas shows offense but Aztecs baseball falls against South Mountain CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (10-5-1, 1-2-1 in ACCAC) held its ACCAC conference home opener on Tuesday against South Mountain Community College (11-6-1, 2-1-1) and the teams played until the game was called due to darkness.
Sophomore Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) went 4 for 7 with two RBIs and a run scored while freshman Cole Cummings also finished 4 for 7 with an RBI and a run scored.

• Game 1: South Mountain CC Cougars 7, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Cougars scored four runs in the 7^th inning and held the Aztecs offense to five hits.
  Porchas put the Aztecs on the board with an RBI double to score sophomore Phillip Sikes to make it 3-1.
  In the 7^th inning, freshman Karl Koerper hit a leadoff double and Cummings drove him in. Porchas and Cummings both finished 1 for 3 with an RBI. Koerper went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
  Sophomore Adam Moraga (Sunnyside HS) took the loss (2-1) but pitched a solid five innings giving up two runs (two earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

• Game 2: South Mountain CC Cougars 3, Pima CC Aztecs 2 (12 innings) (Continued on Apr. 27): The Aztecs left two runners on base in the 11th inning while the Cougars scored on a two-out RBI single. The Aztecs went down in order in the bottom of the 12th.
  Porchas drew a walk with two outs in the 10^th inning. Sophomore Richard Ware came in to pinch run as he stole second base and advanced to third base on an error. Sophomore Jacob Jacome struck out to end the inning.
  Porchas put the Aztecs on the board with a solo home run in the 2^nd inning. Down 2-1, the Aztecs tied the game in the 5^th when freshman Stockton Pringle (Sahuaro HS) hit into a fielder's choice to score Cummings.
  Porchas finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Cummings was 4 for 5 with a run scored.
  Sophomore Adam Moraga (Sunnyside HS) took the loss (7-4) after he pitched the final two innings giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout and two walks. Sophomore Conner Nantkes threw seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS) threw one inning with one strikeout and one walk. Sophomore Hayden Udall (Campo Verde HS) pitched the 9th and 10th innings with two strikeouts.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec baseball field on Saturday when they host an ACCAC doubleheader against Mesa Community College. First game starts at noon.
