Bannister throws 1-hit shutout, Enriquez and Kelch provide clutch hits as Aztecs baseball sweeps Glendale CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (22-6, 15-5 in ACCAC) earned its 12th straight win on Tuesday as the Aztecs earned the sweep at Glendale Community College (15-14, 12-8).
Freshmen Wilson Bannister and Jaren Jackson threw quality innings while freshmen Alex Kelch (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day 4 for 8 with two RBIs and four runs scored.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 8, Glendale CC Gauchos 0: Bannister threw a complete-game shutout allowing one hit with five strikeouts and one walk. He improved to 4-2 on the season.
    The Aztecs took the early lead with two runs in the 1st inning. Kelch drove in freshman Parker Schmidt for the first run of the game. Kelch later scored on freshman Daniel Durazo's (Salpointe Catholic HS) RBI single.
    The Aztecs took a 5-0 lead in the 4th inning when freshman Logan Sanders (Catalina Foothills HS) hit an RBI single to score sophomore JJ Rollon (Skyline HS).
    Pima scored three more insurance runs in the 7th inning. Rollon hit a 2-run RBI single bringing in Durazo and sophomore Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS).
    Durazo hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 3rd inning and another RBI single in the 7th. He finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Kelch went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Rollon was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Schmidt went 1 for 1 with two runs and a walk.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 5, Glendale CC Gauchos 2: The Aztecs scored three runs in the 7th inning to break up a tie game.
    With the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the 7th, the Aztecs put two runners on base to begin the inning. Then with one out, Kelch hit an RBI single to bring in freshman Romeo Ballesteros (Salpointe Catholic HS) to make it 3-2. Freshman Jose Enriquez followed with a 2-run home run to provide the cushion.
    Enriquez also had an RBI double in the 1st inning scoring freshman Bradon Zastrow. Enriquez scored Zastrow once again in the 3rd inning with a sacrifice-fly RBI.
    Enriquez finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run while Zastrow went 2 for 3 with two runs. Kelch finished 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run.
    Freshman Jaren Jackson (5-1) picked up his 5th win of the season as he pitched six innings giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will head back out on the road on Saturday at Scottsdale Community College for an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch is at noon.
