LHP Darius Garcia fans 10 in shutout as Aztecs baseball splits with Arizona Western

The Pima Community College baseball team (36-10, 27-8 in ACCAC) closed out its regular season home schedule on Tuesday as it split with Arizona Western College (29-13, 21-11).
The No. 20 ranked Aztecs were blanked in the first game but got a boost from freshman pitcher Darius Garcia in the second game. Freshman Jose Enriquez finished the day 3 for 7 at the plate with an RBI.

  • Game 1: Arizona Western College Matadors 5, (20) Pima CC Aztecs 0: The Aztecs managed four hits for the game.
    Freshmen Alex Kelch and Romeo Ballesteros (Salpointe Catholic HS) each finished 1 for 2 while Enriquez and sophomore Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) were 1 for 3.
    Freshman Jaren Jackson (7-2) took the loss as he pitched five innings giving up five runs (five earned) on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

  • Game 2: (20) Pima CC Aztecs 2, Arizona Western College Matadors 0: Garcia threw seven scoreless innings giving up two hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks on 103 pitches.
    Freshman Chaison Miklich held a Matador runner on base in the 8th and freshman Kaden Palmer picked up his fifth save setting the Matadors down in order. He got some help from freshman Parker Schmidt, who made a diving catch in left field to record the second out.
    Schmidt hit a leadoff single in the 3rd inning and scored on Enriquez's ground-out to put the Aztecs on the board.
    In the 5th inning, Schmidt drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch.
    Schmidt finished 1 for 3 with two runs and a walk. Enriquez went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Saturday when they play at South Mountain Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. First pitch will be at noon.
