Aztecs Baseball drops single game against Miles Community College at Tucson Invitational

The Pima Community College baseball team (18-8) stepped away from ACCAC conference play on Monday for a single game against Miles Community College (Montana) as part of the Tucson Invitational at the Kino Sports Complex.

  • The Aztecs fell to the Pioneers 6-2 as they took an early lead but Miles countered and held off a Pima rally.
  • Freshman Elijah Reeves (Marana HS) led off the 1st inning as he reached on an error that put him at second base. He moved over to third on a groundout and scored on freshman Benji Cazares' (Tucson Magnet HS) sacrifice-fly RBI.
  • The Pioneers took the lead in the bottom-half of the 1st inning with three runs.
  • Reeves got on base again with a one-out single in the 3rd. With two outs in the inning, freshman Ruben Castro (Tucson Magnet HS) singled and Cazares drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore Andrew Stucky (Canyon del Oro HS) drew a walk to score Reeves to make it 3-2 but sophomore Kaden Stremick struck out to end the threat.
  • The Pioneers tacked on three runs in the 6th inning. The Aztecs left nine runners stranded on base.
  • Reeves finished 1 for 4 with two runs while Castro went 2 for 4. Stucky had an RBI and drew two walks and freshman David Shackelford was 1 for 3.
  • Sophomore Anu Reis took the loss (0-1) as he pitched three innings giving up three runs (none earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they head to Cochise College in Douglas. First game starts at noon.
