Aztecs Baseball earns sweep over Post Grad Sports Baseball

The Pima Community College baseball team (36-12) stepped away from ACCAC conference play on Saturday as it hosted Post Grad Sports Baseball at the West Campus Aztec Field.
Freshman Elijah Reeves (Marana HS) closed out the day going 3 for 7 with two RBIs and two runs. Fellow freshman Jontae Hennesy (Horizon HS) was 3 for 5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Sophomore Matt Romero got the win in relief in the first game and freshman Alessandro Castro (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) threw five shutout innings to get the win in the second game.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 8, Post Grad Sports Baseball Roadrunners 3: The Aztecs took the lead in the 4th inning with seven runs to pick up the first-game win.
Reeves tied the game with an RBI single to score freshman Antonio Avila, who led off the inning with a walk. Sophomore Andrew Maxwell scored on a wild pitch and then the Aztecs got three straight RBI singles from sophomore Hunter Faildo, freshman Benji Cazares (Tucson Magnet HS) and sophomore Braeden Mondeau (Cienega HS) to make it 6-2. Avila drew a bases loaded walk and Mondeau scored on a passed ball to cap off the inning as Pima led 8-2.
Reeves finished the game going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Faildo was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run while Cazares went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Mondeau finished 1 for 4 with an RBI and two runs. Avila and Maxwell each drew two walks and scored a run.
Romero got the win in relief (3-0) as he pitched three innings, giving up two runs (none earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 13, Post Grad Sports Baseball Roadrunners 0 (7 innings): The Aztecs scored runs in the first four innings while Castro did his work on the mound.
Castro picked up the win (6-4) after he pitched five innings, and surrendered just one hit with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Up 7-0, the Aztecs scored five in the 4th inning frame. Hennesy hit an RBI single to score sophomore Kaden Stremick and with two outs, sophomore Luis Garcia (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a two-run RBI single to make it 12-0. Freshman David Shackelford and sophomore Rocco Gump (Seton Catholic HS) scored runs earlier in the inning.
Hennesy had an RBI double in the 3rd inning and finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Stremick hit a two-run RBI single in the 1st inning and finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Garcia closed out the game 1 for 3 with three RBIs, two runs and two walks while freshman Brant Kragel drove an RBI double in the 1st inning and was 1 for 2 with an RBI, two runs and two walks. Reeves went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run and Shackelford was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs.
