Shackelford and Senior each drive in four as Baseball sweeps GateWay CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (28-8, 14-6 in ACCAC) took care of home field on Saturday in its ACCAC doubleheader against GateWay Community College (13-21, 7-13).
The Aztecs have won six straight as sophomore David Shackelford finished the day 2 for 6 with four RBIs and two runs scored while freshman Collin Senior (Horizon HS) closed out the day going 2 for 8 with four RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Nick Arias (Tucson Magnet HS) had a strong showing at the plate finishing 4 for 7 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Sophomore J.T. Drake and freshman Maclain Roberts got the win on the mound.

• Game 1: (18) Pima CC Aztecs 4, GateWay CC Geckos 3: The Aztecs held off a rally to snag the win in the first game.
  The Aztecs scored two runs in each the 1^st and 3^rd innings. Senior hit a two-run RBI single with two outs to drive in Arias and Shackelford to put Pima ahead 2-1.
  The Geckos tied the game at 2-2 in the 2^nd inning, but the Aztecs responded in the 3^rd. Arias hit a lead-off single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Shackelford took advantage and hit an RBI single to bring him in. He scored when freshman Chase Cummings hit his own RBI single with two outs.
  Arias was a flawless 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Shackelford went 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored while Senior was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Cummings finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.
  Drake set the Geckos down in order in the 5^th, 6^th and 7^th innings and got the win as he threw a complete-game, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk on 90 pitches.

• Game 2: (18) Pima CC Aztecs 16, GateWay CC Geckos 8: The first five batters in the lineup produced RBIs as the offense kept the game out of reach.
  Sophomore Elijah Reeves (Marana HS), Arias, Shackelford, sophomore Jontae Hennesy (Horizon HS) and Senior combined to go 8 for 19 with 11 RBIs and six runs scored.
  Senior hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the 2^nd inning, whereas Arias and Shackelford drew back-to-back bases loaded walks. Reeves scored on a wild pitch as the Aztecs took a 5-2 lead.
  Cumming led off the 5^th with a triple and scored when sophomore Benji Cazares (Tucson Magnet HS) hit a two-run homer to make it 10-5.
  Up 11-8 in the 7^th inning, the Aztecs tacked on another five runs. Reeves and Arias drew bases loaded walks while Shackelford hit a two-run RBI single. Hennesy drove an RBI single to cap the inning.
  Reeves finished the game at 1 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cazares closed it out at 1 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs while Arias was 1 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Shackelford went 1 for 4 with three RBIs and Senior was 1 for 5 with two RBIs and a run. Cummings and sophomores Austin Madsen (Canyon del Oro HS) and Caleb Herd (Cienega HS) all scored two runs.
  Roberts got the win as he pitched four and two-third innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts on 72 pitches.
