Aztecs men's tennis sweep Imperial Valley

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-0) opened the 2015 season with a shut out win against Imperial Valley College on Saturday at the West Campus tennis courts.

The Aztecs won 9-0 but they had to fight to win a few of the matches. Juan Bravo (Nogales HS) won a third-set tiebreaker as he defeated Jose Zaragoza 6-3, 2-6, (10-5) in the No. 4 singles match. Josh Henkel (Canyon del Oro HS) won a close match at the No. 5 single spot as he beat Octavio Meza 6-3, 6-4. Richie Foitik (Santa Rita HS) also played a tough match as he beat Andrew Martinez 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match.

Mathieu Lancaster (Marana HS) won his No. 2 singles match against Nathan Vasquez 6-1, 6-0 while Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) upended Omar Ochoa 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Aldo Amaya (San Luis HS) blanked Mitchell Woodbury 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match.

In doubles competition, Foitik and Ton dominated against Martinez and Mesa 8-0. Lancaster and Bravo won their No. 2 doubles match against Zaragoza and Vasquez 8-4 and Henkel with his No. 3 doubles partner Aaron Vazquez (Nogales HS) shut out Ochoa and Jonanthan Cruz 8-0.

The Aztecs' next schedule match is the ACCAC Jamboree at Mesa Community College on Feb. 20.
